Donna Meyer is a partner in the law firm of Fitzwater Meyer, LLP. Her
practice emphasizes estate planning (including estate and gift taxation), estate
and trust administration of taxable estates, elder law, and special needs trusts
for individuals who receive SSI and Medicaid.
Donna is a frequent author and lecturer on estate planning and elder law topics
to attorneys, financial planners, CPAs, and the public. Examples of recent
and pending presentations are to the following: Oregon Society of Certified
Public Accountants; Financial Planning Association; Oregon State Bar (for Elder
Law Section and Estate Planning and Administration Section); Life Underwriters
Caravan; and Health Education (for social workers and nursing home administrators).
In addition to her professional writing in connection with her lectures, Donna
has authored chapters on Special Needs Trusts, the Oregon reference book on Elder
Law, and Administering Trusts in Oregon, published by the Oregon
State Bar.
After becoming a member of the Oregon State Bar, Donna worked for Oregon Legal
Services for ten years. During that time she handled several major cases, including
federal class actions, appeals to the Oregon Court of Appeals, and an appeal
to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. She was the Deputy Director of Oregon
Legal Services for four years, and supervised thirteen offices.
Raised in Oregon, Donna holds a B.S. from Portland State University in Portland,
Oregon, and a J.D. from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.
